  • Barbara Okot Uganda Course Module: Women's health Course Topic: Global health: health care in women Comment: This course focuses on women who are put as part of the vulnerable population. particularly in developing countries where women assume the burden of looking after children, suffer domestic violence, are not allowed to seek employment, preference of the boy to go for education, many of them suffer in later stages due to illiteracy and low socio-economic status. This course is important in highlighting and tackling the plight of women 2013-08-15 09:08:54
  • Barbara Okot Uganda Course Module: Global health Course Topic: Global health - health in childhood Comment: This course is of importance as it reflects on the critical aspects of childhood health and development such as malnutrition that should be avoided or managed at all costs. Developing countries have higher rates of malnourished children or those suffering from growth retardation due to a number of issues. This could range from poverty, diseases, low levels of education especially of the mothers and conflicts or wars. However in my country Uganda supplements are given at many of the hospitals and health centers as a result of the collaboration between government and the private sector in form of NGOs and other international organizations like WHO and UNICEF. As the transcript points out, mothers should not be left as their poor health and nutritional status that may result to low birth wait will in turn affect the weight or development of this baby when in the womb. People need to be educated that children with low birth weight are at a risk of getting diseases, having learning disabilities, slow cognitive development or even death 2013-08-13 13:08:06
